He was born on Dec. 20, 1960 at New San Jose Dinalupihan, Bataan. His father is Sancho Matawaran, a farmer and his mother is Virginia Montehermoso Matawaran, a housewife and former store owner. He has four siblings, all female: Cora a Medical Technologist, Nora a librarian in the University of Sto. Tomas, Marlene a Commerce Graduate and Businesswoman and Eva Commerce Graduate and Businesswoman.

His happy childhood was spent mostly in their home town, where he studied in Elementary School of New San Jose wherein he a consistent honor student graduate as salutatorian in 1973. After elementary studies he went to Northern Bataan Institute for his Secondary Education. In 1977, he entered the University of Sto. Tomas and graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He took the Pharmacy Licensure Examination in 1982 and passed it with an average grade of 91.2%. In 1985, he was admitted to the faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Sto. Tomas. He took the Physician’s Licensure Exam and passed it with a grade of 86.57%. He started working as a resident Physician at the Dinalupihan District Hospital from 1989-1994. In 1994, he entered the internal medicine residency training of the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center and become the chief resident of the department. In 1998, when he finished the program. He took the fellowship examination of the Philippine College of Physician in 1998 and passed it in the same year. He is now a diplomat of the Philippine Board of Internal Medicine and a fellow of the Philippine College of Physician. He started his private practice as a consultant in internal medicine as a Proprietor-Consultant of the Matawaran Medical Clinic, affiliate consultant of Bataan Peninsula Medical Center (BPMC) J.C. Payumo Hospital and Holy Rosary Medical a Maternity Hospital.

In 1987, he got married to his classmate in UST, Ma. Daisy Mateo. It’s a blessful marriage that bore 6 children, Ma. Francesca a Computer Graduate from La Salle Manila now married with 1 smart and lovely grand daughter Sam, Miguel Antonio who died in Utero, Luis Paolo a Med-Tech Graduate from University of Sto. Tomas and presently s Medical Student at Fatima College of Medicine, Jose Ma. Lorenzo an Information Technology Graduate from Letran College Manila, Renato Jr. a Business Admin. Student at UST and Andrea Nicole a grade 9 student at Regional Science School at SBMA, who also dream a becoming a doctor-surgeon someday. He so grateful that god has given his more than what he asked for; supportive and loving parents, sisters and his wife and children, and a successful career as a physician.

Although he calling as a physician, he enjoy alternating as a farmer tending a small farm planted with mangoes and farm animals such as goat, pigs and chicken. Rice is also planted during rainy seasons. An advocate of good health he do a lot of exercise such a jogging, tennis and worked out to his little gym. Reading books and watching action movies are his other passions.

His career in politics began in 2010, when he run for mayor of Dinalupihan. Although he did not win on that elections, he was able to bring the message of change and the desire to be of seduce to our town people, probably the reasons why the people in Dinalupihan rewarded he the overwhelming mandate despite all odds in 2013 when he run as a vice mayor and won handily against formidable opponents.

Presently he is the Vice Mayor and Presiding Officer of the Sangguniang Bayan of Dinalupihan alternating as a physician doing rounds in the hospital and consultation with his patients at his clinic. He also do Medical Out Reach Program for giving Barangay in between his regular works. Politics for his is a noble calling because in entails service to the people. Many wanted to became Elected Public Servant but only few are chosen by the people. It is indeed a golden opportunity to be of service to the people. He have been so enthralled reading the story and biography of Ninoy Aquino, Gandhi, Lincoln Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, J.F. Kennedy whose kind of leadership. He always wanted to emulate. As they say leadership is a gift from god and someone to develop and share to the people. He have been blessed with so many that he think it is his responsibility to give back to others what god gave to his.
